The History

The earliest known history available about Heathrow is about the Vicar of Harmondsworth’s plot during 1930. 1930 is when Richard Fairey bought this land for £15,000. Fairey used this 150-acre plot as an airbase where he used to test and assemble aircraft. He named this base Fairey’s Great West Aerodrome.

The UK government later used this land for building a different airbase called RAF Heston. The purpose of this base was to help in troop-carrying aircraft. This base’s purpose ended with the end of the war, and the air ministry took control over it, making it London’s first civil airport.

The new base has experienced its first-ever aircraft taking off with the Lancaster bomber, name as Starlight. As the name is, this base was London Airport, 1966 was the year when it was renamed as Heathrow Airport. As soon as it was opened as a civil airport, a lot of airlines partnered with it.
