Royston is an English town and civil parish in Hertfordshire County and the District of North Hertfordshire. Because Roman troops utilized these highways to reach the hinterland of Roman Britain, Royston’s position was important. Following the old route of Icknield Way, the modern A505 goes north of Royston. Barrows on Goffers Knoll and Therfield Heath are further examples of historical evidence that points to the area’s ancient habitation.
